I work with teens to build a trusting relationship where they feel safe, confident and able to share their thoughts and feelings openly. Your child will have someone in their court who they can call their coach and confide in. Someone who will offer insight into changing negative patterns and encourages their brightest ideas.
Being a teen these days is a stressful job. Not only do they face the social and academic pressures of school as their parents did, but everything has been ramped up in this information age to the point where filtering all of the content and taking from it what is meaningful and useful, is like panning for gold. It’s no wonder they come up short some times.
If your teen is going through a tough time at home or at school due to any number of reasons but you feel therapy may seem too extreme, don’t look past getting them some form of support. Coaching is an ideal way to help your child help him or herself. They will gain important coping tools and life skills that will serve them through difficult situations that arise in their near future and long into adulthood.
Think back to when you were a teen. If you had had someone other than your parents that you had trusted, someone who had your best at heart, who knew how you really felt and encouraged you to stay true to yourself and make the best decisions for your present and future. someone who could have helped you to navigate the trickier situations in life with courage and integrity. Championed your successes and helped you to understand and learn from the “failures”. Might your teen years have been a bit easier? What if you could have skipped some of the unnecessary drama, uncertainty and angst? What would dropping all of that have left room for instead? What might you have gained? What if you could offer this simple yet awesome gift to your child… What might they have to gain?.
Coaching will improve self-esteem, help with better time management, encourage personal growth, it offers a more simple path to figuring out who you are now and who you want to be going into the future. Coaching provides a positive connection to thoughts and emotions, redirects negative self-talk, allows us to build pathways that lead to a brighter future. And above all a coach will listen to and hear what you are really saying. To be heard and understood is all we need at times.
